The beautiful market town of Marlborough is on the banks of the River Kennet and along the Old Bath Road, which runs from London to Bath.

The town as we know it dates from 1690 having been rebuilt three times following devastating fires. Set in the rolling countryside of the North Wessex Downs in Wiltshire, a local market is held here twice weekly on one of the widest High Streets in the UK, which is lined on both sides with attractive historical buildings housing high quality shops and chic cafés.

The town Mop, music and literary festivals are just some of the very popular annual events. The 17th Century Merchants House is open to the public, as is Wilton Windmill, a two hundred year old, traditional working windmill which is 9 miles from the town. In 1804 boys from the fee-paying Marlborough College cut a white horse in the grounds, the smallest one in Wiltshire, and it must have been admired by one of their most notable alumni - HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales. One of the college’s claims to fame, another being the mysterious Merlin’s Mound, the supposed burial place of the wizard Merlin. The town's motto on its coat of arms translates as "Where now are the bones of wise Merlin"!
