We recently sat down with Sarah to hear the story behind how it all began and to glimpse what’s coming next, fresh from her latest trip to India.
Twelve years ago, a single journey changed everything. With no expectations and a suitcase full of curiosity, I travelled alone to India, a place I had only imagined through colours, patterns, and stories. What I found there became the soul of Vinegar Hill’s Own Brand: families of artisans carving, stitching, printing, and creating with a level of passion that was impossible to walk away from. Many of those same families continue to craft our products today, their skills woven into the DNA of our collection.
Each buying trip takes me back to Delhi’s bustling workshops and Jaipur’s legendary block-printing studios, places where heritage techniques fill the air with rhythm and colour. Jaipur, with its carved wooden printing blocks and sun-drenched dye yards, remains a constant source of inspiration. Every visit reveals something new: a craft revived, a pattern rediscovered, a family carrying forward a tradition that is centuries old.

Hand embroidery, carving, beadwork, block printing, crochet, these aren’t just processes; they are stories. Stories of hands that know the weight of their craft, of families who have stitched their lives into their work for generations. The hand-carved picture frames that have become so loved, for instance, began as snaps I took of materials I loved or designs I saw in magazines reimagined by artisans who brought them to life in mango wood.
And now, as we look toward 2026, a fresh wave of creativity is on its way. Think new textiles rich with character, and the most exquisite crochet pieces crafted by a family who has perfected the art for over a century. Their bags, eye masks, and wheat bags are extraordinary. We’re also venturing into handcrafted macramé swing chairs, playful, textural, and completely unique to Vinegar Hill.
