As the summer softens into cooler mornings and cosier evenings, we find ourselves wanting to slow down, settle in and welcome the new season. Refreshing your home for autumn doesn't need a big makeover, often it's the smallest, most thoughtful touches that make the biggest difference. From natural materials and warm autumnal shades to cosy corners and soft lighting. Here are our favourite autumn styling tips from Claire, our Visual Merchandising Director.
Bring in Natural Materials
September is a lovely time of year to add natural materials into the home. A great way to do this is to bring in dried foliage from your garden and arrange it in a large statement vase. You could use late-season hydrangea heads, or tall feathery plumes of pampas grass for a soft and neutral aesthetic. If you want to add richer tones, use beech branches with their warm copper leaves. And for those looking for a little more drama, why not create a real sculptural showstopper with branches of twisted hazel, and make it the centrepiece of your room.
Create a Cosy Reading Corner
This is the perfect time to reset and get ready for the cooler days. A lovely addition to any home is a cosy reading corner that welcomes you in and wraps you in comfort. Here, you want to carefully select pieces that make the space feel considered and lived-in, rather than overly styled. Try soft throws to keep you snuggly, and deep, rich autumnal shades like ochre, rust, olive green and terracotta to bring a seasonal update.

Layer Your Lighting
As the evenings start drawing in, lighting your home becomes more important. Add table lamps or candles to a room to create a pocket of light, rather than relying on ceiling lights alone. And don't forget to use warm-white bulbs for a softer, more golden tone.
Refresh Your Walls with Art
A piece of art can instantly shift a mood, start a conversation with guests visiting your home, or create a focal point for your room. Autumn is a great time to review the wall decor in your home, and it's an easy way to introduce colour without a full makeover. We're always on the lookout for new, independent artists to support in our shops, and we've just introduced a few new faces to our Folk Tales collection.
