As the days get colder and the nights get darker, staying cosy in the evenings with a scented candle, comfy cushions and a snuggly blanket is a must. However, the icing on the cake is a good hot drink to wrap your hands around, and what’s better than a great hot chocolate? So we’ve decided to share our secret recipe to the perfect hot chocolate. Shhhh.
Step 1 – Warm 200ml of whole milk in a saucepan over a medium heat.
Step 2 – Stir in 80g of your favourite chocolate (grated). Let the chocolate melt into the milk.
Step 3 – Add another 50ml of milk and 50ml of single cream. The cream adds a delicious thickness (that you never knew you even needed in a hot chocolate).
Step 4 (optional) – Add ½ teaspoon of cinnamon or your favourite coffee syrup.
Step 5 – Top your hot chocolate with lashings of squirty cream, mini marshmallows and grated chocolate.
Step 6 – Stand back and marvel at your new creation.
Step 7 – Return to sofa, pull up blanket, hold mug with both hands and breathe in the chocolate smell before your first sip of chocolate magic. Then think about who you can get to make it for you next time, to avoid leaving the sofa at all.
And what is the perfect cosy evening without a bath? Baths can relax the body in a way a shower can’t and many people feel the physical and mental benefits of switching off in hot bath filled with scented bubbles or oils. Our secret to the perfect bath?
Step 1 – Start the bath running with your favourite bubble bath and/or any bath bombs you might have been given (let’s face it, not many of us buy them for ourselves). Make it a bit more special so you will enjoy the chance to relax and unwind.
Step 2 – Light some of your favourite Vinegar Hill candles.
Step 3 – Put on your favourite music, or enjoy some silence (if you’re fortunate enough to find some).
Step 4 – Make sure you have everything you need within reach before you get in; maybe a book, some nice soap, face wash, shampoo, a glass of wine or a cup of tea.
Step 5 (optional) – Go all out and put on a face mask and hair treatment. You deserve it and evening baths are the perfect opportunity to really pamper yourself with things you never normally do.
Step 6 – Undress, ignoring any negative body thoughts (you look great!), slip into the warm water and take a few deep breaths.
Step 7 – Relax. Be conscious of relaxing your whole body. Focus on any areas that feel tense until they let go. This may take time as the body doesn’t always do it naturally, sometimes we have to work at telling those stubborn areas to relax.
Step 8 – When your fingers begin to feel like prunes, get gracefully out of the bath and dry yourself. If you have a nice moisturiser treat your skin to some of that before slipping into your cosiest pair of pj’s and your fluffiest dressing gown.
After this all you need to do is curl up on the sofa or in bed to watch a movie with a perfect hot chocolate.
